Viewpoints

This young robin has been
a persistent presence around
our place this spring, & his unusual
behavior has given me pause for
great curiosity & wonder.....

Marti, what on earth was he up to, I wonder also? Fervent messenger has some quality of insistence to it which the photo emphasizes. The site is becoming so lovely. I love the theme here and am smiling.

Could be a messenger. I hope he settles down before he gets hurt.

Thank you to all of you! I remember reading an Ellen Goodman piece, years ago, about observing a woodpecker doing the same thing, and her musings about it had me laughing out loud! Our robin is still at it, countless times a day, going from one window to another. The rational part of me thinks, "he's a Narcissus, in love with his own reflection!" or perhaps, challenging this 'other bird' that appears to be challenging his territory. But I confess too, to some wonderings about a 'messenger' to me, saying,"What in the world are you doing in there on a day like this? Come outside!"

By the way, having spent so much time trying to capture an image, I realized that he tends to tap, feet first, and bounce off. He clearly isn't flying into the window as if it isn't there, and doesn't seem to be hurting himself. Maybe he is just an adolescent enjoying a newly discovered 'sport' (like bird trampoline?) -- window whacking!
